Claudius Schulze

Biography

Claudius Schulze (*1984, Munich, Germany) is a photographer and researcher. His book “State of Nature” (Hartmann Books, 2017) examines the extent of climate change and natural disaster protection in the European landscape. The work has been nominated for the Prix Pictet (2016-17: Space) and has been included in the final selection for the LUMA Rencontres Dummy Book Award 2016 and the Paris Photo Aperture PhotoBook Award 2017. With his first artist book “Socotra” (Lonely Island, 2011) Schulze was nominated for the World Press Photo Master Class and invited to the Royal Photographic Society.

Claudius Schulze’s photographs are regularly published in international publications such as Geo, Stern, The Mirror, Smithsonian Magazine and National Geographic Traveler. Claudius Schulze’s works are held in private and institutional collections. Claudius Schulze is a regular guest lecturer at the Leuphana University Lüneburg, the University of Applied Sciences Hannover and the National Institute of Design (NID), the leading design academy in India. Claudius Schulze studied Mechanical Engineering, Political Science and Islamic Studies in Hamburg, “Conflict Analysis and Resolution” (M.A.) at Sabanci University Istanbul and “Documentary Photography and Photojournalism” at the LCC, University of the Arts London. Here he is currently doing artistic research as a PhD student on computer creativity. Claudius Schulze is a member of the Cloud Appreciation Society. He lives in Berlin.

Sein Buch „State of Nature“ (Hartmann Books, 2017) untersucht das Ausmaß des Klimawandels und des Naturkatastrophenschutzes in der europäischen Landschaft. Die Arbeit wurde für den Prix Pictet (2016-17: Space) nominiert und das Buch in die Endauswahl des LUMA Rencontres Dummy Book Award 2016 sowie des Paris Photo Aperture PhotoBook Awards 2017 aufgenommen. Mit seinem ersten Künstlerbuch Socotra (Lonely Island, 2011) wurde Schulze für die World Press Photo Master Class nominiert sowie in die Royal Photographic Society eingeladen.

Claudius Schulzes Fotografien werden regelmäßig in internationalen Publikationen wie Geo, Stern, Der Spiegel, Smithsonian Magazine und National Geographic Traveller veröffentlicht. Claudius Schulzes Arbeiten sind in privaten wie institutionellen Sammlungen vertreten. Claudius Schulze ist regelmäßig Gastdozent an der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg, der Fachhochschule Hannover und am National Institute of Design (NID), der führenden Designakademie Indiens. Claudius Schulze studierte Maschinenbau, Politik- und Islamwissenschaft in Hamburg, „Conflict Analysis and Resolution“ (M.A.) an der Sabanci University Istanbul sowie „Documentary Photography and Photojournalism“ (M.A. mit Auszeichnung) am LCC, University of the Arts London. Gegenwärtig forscht er dort künstlerisch als PhD-Student über Computerkreativität. Claudius Schulze ist Mitglied der Cloud Appreciation Society. Er lebt in Berlin.
