We’re pleased to announce the publication of Heustock / Hayloft, the new photographic series by gallery artist Bernhard Fuchs. Taken between 2018 and 2024 in his native region of Upper Austria, the images explore the quiet, hidden interiors of haylofts on small-scale farms.
These spaces, located directly above the stables, serve both a practical and atmospheric function. After one or two harvests during the warmer months, the grass is dried in the fields, gathered into haystacks, and then stored in the lofts before being fed daily to the animals below through hatches in the stable ceiling.
Fuchs describes the haylofts as ‘reminiscent of sacred spaces,’ shaped by their limited light, stillness, and timeless atmosphere.
Published by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König, the book is available in a German edition (Heustock) and an English edition (Hayloft). We look forward to presenting a selection of prints from the series at our booth at Paris Photo this November.
